Do We Really Need MOAR Buffy?

I must admit something that could make you think less of me as a geek: I’ve never seen Buffy the Vampire Slayer before this year.

Gasp.

Well, that’s not necessarily true. I’ve seen the occasional episode here and there, and been forced to watch key episodes out of context, but I never actually sat down and gave the series a chance until this year. Long story short: I loved it. The characters, the writing, the plot, the monsters, the Alyson Hannigan, etc. Film execs must feel the same way as I do, because there’s wind of a Buffy movie in the future. Sarah Michelle Gellar seems on board, and that’s pretty much where the rumor train stops.

I guess my only question is whether or not a new film is really needed. While I love the show greatly, there was never really a time where I felt a lack of closure, or a need to see the continuing saga of Miss Summers. It’s pretty much the same feeling I have about any attempts to revive Firefly that pop up every year or so. These stories had some pretty decent closure for me, so I don’t really understand what more could be done with these characters. And what’s to say that the new film would even capture the spirit of the show we all know and love and, you know….be good?
