Video games being made into movies sounds great but in reality never works out. You would think Hollywood would have learned by now but with talks of a blockbuster Halo film, it seems not.
This latest attempt is a lot better than previous attempts but still falls a little bit short.
Mark Wahlberg stars as Payne, the game's dark antihero cop living in a supernatural city. While trying to track down the crooks who killed his wife, he discovers there is a new drug doing the rounds.
Max is dragged into the subculture and finds himself accused of the death of Bond girl Olga Kurylenko, so he teams up with her sister (Mila Kunis) to track down the real culprits.
Of course it's handy that our Mila is a hitwoman - and even more so that she looks so good in her slinky little bad girl outfits. Stars include Beau Bridges, Chris O'Donnell and rapper Ludacris, who should really stick to the stage with a mic in his hand. The acting's not bad, the action is good but the plot is a little shaky.
TWO AND A HALF MEN: SEASON 5 (15) *****
It's little wonder this lively, breezy sitcom is one of the most successful to emerge from the States in recent years.
Charlie Sheen pretty much plays his younger self, a laddish, booze-soaked, wealthy playboy who has been saddled with his irritating brother (Jon Cryer) and his son Jake.
Basically an Odd Couple update with an annoying child thrown in, hilarity ensues as Charlie works his way through LA's finest ladies.
INKHEART (PG) ***
This fantasy tale will thrill children of all ages with its colourful characters and weird world.
Brendan Fraser take time out from gurning at mummies to gurn at, er, other strange creatures.,
He is Mortimer Folchart, who has a unique gift - - when he reads aloud, he can make characters come to life and emerge into our world. The downside is he can accidentally banish real people into book world - which he did to his wife while reading to their daughter.
So he's trying to get his wife out of the book Inkherat and return Dustfinger (Paul Bettany) there in her place.
Nonsensical but as family films go it's a winner, with great special effects and a fast pace which will have kids enthralled. Mickey McMonagle
