Kal Penn Leaves House MD For White House

Kal Penn, the Indian-American who portrayed Dr. Lawrence Kutner in the TV drama “House MD”, has decided to leave the show for a job as associate director at the Office of Public Liaison at the White House.

Kal Penn, who was known as a vocal supporter of Barack Obama during his presidential campaign, will help connect the Obama administration with arts and entertainment groups.

That’s why the writers of House MD were forced to write out his character, Lawrence Kutner, from the TV series.Fox has announced in some promotional clips that a major twist will be revealed in the Mondy’s episode of House MD. But probably no one expected the manner in which Kutner left the show.

At the beginning of the episode, Lawrence Kutner is missing. Remy "Thirteen" Hadley (Olivia Wilde) and Eric Foreman (Omar Epps) go to his apartment and they find his body laying on the floor: he shot himself, without no apparent reason.

House refuses to accept that Kutner’s death was a suicide, while the rest of the characters choose various ways to deal with this unexpected tragedy: Chris Taub (Peter Jacobson) is trying to solve a strange medical case on his own, Eric Foreman takes a leave of absence, while Cudy (Lisa Edelstein) and Dr. Wilson (Robert Sean Leonard) are trying to help House to accept the truth: it was just a suicide, “a pointless death”.

While the episode, called “Simple Explanation” was praised by some critics as a masterpiece, other were unhappy about this plot twist, calling it pointless and a way to create a “Very Special Episode”

Kal Penn is also known for his roles as Taj Mahal Badalandabad in “National Lampoon's Van Wilder” and Kumar in “Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle” and “Harold & Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay”. According to the White House, a start date for Penn hasn't been set.
